Canine distemper still prevalent in Brevard County

To prevent the public from inadvertently adopting a dog that is incubating this disease on a temporary basis, we have implemented a selective dog adoption program at the South Animal Care Center located at 5100 W. Eau Gallie Blvd, Melbourne, FL 32935. The adoption program will focus on dogs that have been fully vaccinated and have spent a sufficient amount of time under observation. The dog adoption viewing area in the South Animal Care Center will remain closed to the public until further notice.

Citizens looking to adopt a dog are encouraged to utilize our website to view all dogs that may be available for adoption or dogs that may be in a foster home. Inquiries in reference to any of the adoptable or foster dogs can be made by calling 321-253-6608. Regular adoption practices will return to the South Animal Care Center after the Department’s medical staff has determined it is reasonable to do so. The North Animal Care Center will continue regular adoption practices as they are not currently affected.
